Kyoto: Sushi, Wit, and Wisdom

There are times when I forego making a dinner reservation and simply have a walk around town looking for interesting places and tempting food. This approach is sometimes rewarding and sometimes folly. Folly when you discover that all the places you want to each are sold out. Rewarding when the dining establishment over delivers with great food, character, and charm – and Tomi Sushi has all in abundance.

Upon entering our 81 year old sushi chef gives you a good looking over, and after passing inspection, we settled into our bar seating for a thoroughly delicious and entertaining sushi dinner.  His gruff exterior soon gives way to a kind and inquisitive personality.   Although the communication was basic, it was always warm and amusing.   From our bar seats, we enjoyed great views of the busy and active dining room.  Probably our best meal out while in Japan and we’ll put this in the rewarding category.
